Sacramento Young Professionals Group Partnering with Organization Offering Services to Homeless
SACRAMENTO, CA – Metro EDGE, the young professionals program of the Sacramento Metro Chamber, today announced a yearlong partnership with the nonprofit Next Move in an effort to address and alleviate homelessness in the region. The collaboration offers young professionals the opportunity to improve outcomes for individuals using Next Move’s services and to assist the organization in achieving its mission to find housing options for the region’s homeless.
“Young professionals in the Sacramento region care deeply about our community, its safety and its residents. One of the core aspects of our mission is to give back to the community and serve,” said 2016 Metro EDGE Chair Christine Calvin. “Our members want to give back to the region – and we want to offer opportunities for them to make a difference and make sure that Metro EDGERs are educated about regional issues and put in positions where we can help.”
Metro EDGE members, through an organization-wide survey, selected homelessness as being the most important issue facing the region for 2016. As the annual partner, Metro EDGE will work with Next Move on volunteer opportunities, fundraising efforts, and in kind donations such as business services and consulting. Last year, Metro EDGE selected Reading Partners as its 2015 beneficiary. EDGE members volunteered over 120 hours total for the year and raised over $5,000 in donations through fundraising efforts for Reading Partners.
Next Move’s mission is to help get more individuals and families off the streets, back to work, and into their own home. Next Move’s services include: programs for temporary shelter and permanent supportive housing, providing individual success plans, self-sufficiency workshops on living skills, parenting, budgeting, housing, health and mental health care, housing relocation assistance, employment readiness and community support services. Next Move’s impact in the region continues to expand as they recently merged with another local organization, Francis House, who provides assistance to families and individuals toward self-reliance.
