Zanker Road Resource Management Ltd. (Zanker), doing business as Florin Perkins Public Disposal Site and GreenWaste of Sacramento, has brought its state-of-the-art waste collection and processing to the Sacramento market. Since Zanker’s inception in San Jose in 1985, the company has always sought ways to develop technology and methodology to increase waste diversion from landfills. In 1989, Zanker designed and constructed the first automated construction and demolition debris recycling operation in the United States. Eight years later, the Z-Best Composting Facility opened in Gilroy, CA, and now diverts over 260,000 tons of organic waste from landfills annually. Zanker’s vision for Sacramento is to assist general contractors, subcontractors, and the general public in their efforts to divert waste from landfills, and to lead the industry in implementing new waste diversion technologies. The resources and recycling expertise that Zanker brings to the Sacramento area will provide peace-of-mind for contractors that are working on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and CalGreen covered projects.

zankerIn 2006, Zanker expanded into Sacramento and signed a long term lease at the former Florin Perkins Landfill. Part of this lease agreement included the undertaking of an extensive clean-up effort in order to bring the disposal site up to par for permitting and environmental compliance. Zanker spent two years excavating and processing debris that were improperly buried and stockpiled at the neglected landfill site. In effort, Zanker was able to recover and recycle/reuse 65% of the tonnage generated from the clean-up. Today, the facility now known as the Florin Perkins Public Disposal Site has the capability of diverting over 75% of all debris that is disposed there. With new government regulations for construction and demolition debris recycling, Florin Perkins can provide recycling services and certification for contractors that need to recycle a high percentage of the debris generated from their construction projects. In addition to Florin Perkins sorting operations, Zanker opened GreenWaste of Sacramento Debris Box Service in early 2012. Contractors that use GreenWaste for debris box service will also benefit from Florin Perkins operations for debris recycling and diversion. In sum, Zanker can provide “turn-key” recycling programs with the synergy of GreenWaste and Florin Perkins operations together. Aside from contractors, the general public can bring their debris to Florin Perkins or rent a debris box and feel that they are doing their part to preserve our environment.

DebrisBoxAdPhotoWith landfill space becoming scarce, the core management team realized that better waste management technology and methodology had to be implemented. At Zanker’s unique construction and demolition debris processing facility, the “Rocket” component (processes 135 tons per hour with 95% diversion rate), Z-Best’s 157 acre composting facility (home of Filtrexx Soxx), and Florin Perkins custom mechanical sort line (capable of processing and transferring up to 500 tons per day with plans to add an additional sort line and processes to increase recycling percentages) are all examples of technology that Zanker has developed and implemented. These technologies have allowed Zanker to reach the goal of significantly reducing greenhouse gases. For example, from 2009 to 2011 an independent audit showed that Zanker’s recycling operations reduced GHG by 1.7 million metric tons. Recently, Zanker launched their Zerowaste Energy Development operation. This technology uses anaerobic digestion to processes MSW/food waste into fuel. With the success of those operations, Zanker may consider utilizing this technology in the Sacramento market in the future.
