Chamber View: Leading with Purpose

By Metro Chamber|August 30, 2016|News Coverage|

A real leader offers more than a fancy title but instead, is identified by behaviors they exhibit and qualities they possess, that seem to attract and motivate others towards a common goal. It isn’t easy to be a leader; it takes a firm desire to mobilize a group and to inspire belief that working together achieves more than working alone. We at the Metro Chamber believe in fostering opportunities for our members and friends in the community to develop leadership skills and learn directly from those in leadership roles.

This month, the Metro Chamber Foundation will be accepting applications for our Leadership Sacramento program. Leadership Sacramento develops community-minded business and civic leaders of tomorrow with the goal of strengthening their role and impact in our community. This year-long interactive program provides a behind-the-scenes view of the issues that impact the region’s economy and culminates in the completion of a community project. Elected officials, CEOs, non-profit executives, etc. are among the nearly 1,000 individuals who have participated in this 30+ year program.

Next month, on October 7th, our Perspectives on Leadership will bring women leaders from various industries at all stages in their careers to share how they’ve broken barriers and redefined rules. This event promises to explore life lessons, the importance of failure, and the value of risk as we hear from women who have faced opposition and moved forward.

While these are the most immediate opportunities the Metro Chamber offers to finesse your leadership skills, there are many ways to get involved year-round. Join one of our dozen committees, become an Ambassador and mentor one of our members, attend one of our events and meet a new contact, attend a workshop and learn a new skill, or join our Board! We are dedicated to helping build tomorrow’s workforce and fostering opportunities for our members to lead with purpose.

If interested in exploring Leadership Sacramento or attending Perspectives on Leadership, please visit our website for our application or to secure your ticket. Take a step with us today–to be a leader for others tomorrow.
