Testimony on The Railyards to Planning and Design Commission, City of Sacramento 10/24

By Metro Chamber|October 24, 2016|Advocacy|

Good evening Vice Chair Burke and Members of the Planning Commission, my name is Chris Smith and I’m the Public Policy Manager for the Sacramento Metro Chamber.

I’m here tonight to express the Metro Chamber’s strong support for the Sacramento Railyards.

This mixed-use development project, will bring economic prosperity and diversity to our local economy by attracting new employers and help existing ones flourish.

With the addition of a Kaiser Permanente hospital and a Major League Soccer (MLS) stadium, combined with creative office spaces and large employers, the Railyards is poised to be a major economic driver for the Capital Region and harbor high-paying jobs.

The Railyards will have a direct economic impact by bringing:

·        Approximately 700,000 square feet of retail and restaurants

·        1,100 hotel rooms

·        Nearly 500,000 square feet of historical and cultural use space

·        Parks and other public uses

Lastly, the Railyards will help us achieve the audacious but necessary goal of 10,000 new housing units in downtown.

The Sacramento Metro Chamber supports projects that aid in the growth and economic success of our region, and the Railyards is undoubtedly one of those. We ask for your support.

Thank you.
