Established in 1940, SAFE Credit Union comes from a modest beginning as a small credit union serving civilians and eventually enlisted Air Force personnel. Today, SAFE serves over 213,000 members and small businesses in our 21 local branches.
Through our collaboration with the SMCC, SAFE provided underwriting for the new Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to deliver local small businesses the tools they need to be successful. By helping small businesses grow, more local jobs can be created, increasing work opportunities and incomes for the betterment of the Greater Sacramento region.
The staff, executives, and volunteer board of directors at SAFE take great joy in serving the community through a variety of philanthropic and volunteer efforts. A corporate initiative, SAFE Volunteer!, encourages our employees to help improve the lives of our members and the communities we share. In 2016, SAFE employees volunteered more than 9,800 hours to dozens of organizations and causes, and SAFE proudly donated nearly $300,000 to local nonprofits and programs.
We proudly support the Chamber’s efforts in Workforce Development and offer free financial education workshops to local businesses through our SAFE@Work program. Additionally, we have two high school branches that are student run year round and help students gain professional experience while introducing them to money management.
SAFE looks forward to continued collaboration with the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce and other organizations who share our vision to meaningfully serve our region, build a strong local economy and create a brighter future.
