KJ 2 Productions is an award winning full service film and video production company committed to producing high quality creative multi-media solutions.
How many years have you been in business?
We have been in Sacramento since 2010, so going on 5 years. I used to work in pharmaceutical sales and decide to go back to school in 2006 to study film. I was always the guy with the camera and it had always been a creative passion of mine, but I never thought it could be a career. Having a business degree helped monetize my creative passion and turn it into a business and since then we have grown to 8 employees.
What do you enjoy most about your job/business?
The greatest thing, first and foremost, is that I am blessed to be in a position to do what I love. Even if I were to win the lottery big, I would still be doing the same work. Our work really is different every day and I am blessed to work with different people and work with non-profits. Sixty percent of our time involves working with non-profits and we have the ability to tell their story in a way that conveys the importance of the work they do. For years I questioned my legacy, but I’ve discovered that part of my legacy is producing media that will touch people around the world and that will be around much longer than I can.
What is the most challenging part?
We are freelancers, so the most challenging part is networking and making connections to ensure business is consistent. We manage by producing great work and our relationships with our clients is the way of doing business.
What is the best piece of professional and/or personal advice you’ve received?
Never worry about the money, if you do good work the money will come. I don’t do it for the money, but from the passion for the project. There is value in producing great work.
When did you join Metro Chamber?
June 2015
Has your Metro Chamber membership/experience been valuable?
Metro Chamber has a subset of entrepreneurs and small business I can share best practices with and there many people in the Chamber that I can network and look up to. The support and opportunity the Chamber gives to members is great.
What do you enjoy most about living and working in the Sacramento region?
I feel for small businesses, Sacramento is a city on the verge of major economic development, especially in downtown and along the riverfront. It is very fertile ground and I enjoy the nucleus of entrepreneurial minds in Sacramento. There is a lot of creative leverage and if you are a young artist, you have a lot of opportunity here.
Do you have any new plans for KJ 2 in the near future?
My plan is to grow and provide opportunities for other creative individuals. As well as continue to build strong and professional relationships and provide everyone with the best media solutions.
Something not everyone knows about your or KJ 2 Productions:
Something many may not know is that we donate 250 billable hours to non-profits each month. We are highly civically active.
