The Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce is putting its support behind a proposed ballot measure that would compel the city of Sacramento to take action on homelessness.
“This is a triage method,” said Metro Chamber CEO Amanda Blackwood. “This is an emergency. We’ve got to treat this like an emergency.”
Blackwood said that over the past few years, public safety and homelessness has become the No. 1 issue of concern for the chamber’s members. This has happened as, during the pandemic, the number of people sleeping on Sacramento streets is estimated to have doubled.
“Practically, our city and our county are simply not meeting those needs at the rate that the population has grown,” Blackwood said.
